How Nice!

Add caption

Last week laxsupermom surprised me with a fun award!  You may have seen the Stylish Blogger Award   on other blogs. The rules are to share about seven things you didn't know about me, and pass the award on to other favorite recently discovered bloggers.  I love learn a little about each blogger, so I'll play along with one caveat. Leave a comment with something I don't know about you and/or ask me a question. I'll try to answer as best I can.

Laxsupermom's eclectic blog is a daily read. She is does so many interesting things!  Be sure to pop over and take a peek.

Here goes . . .

Indy Flute Fest February 12, 2011
1. Since 7th grade music has been essential to my happiness. I had the most amazing clarinet teacher who introduced me to the whole new genre of music, classical. I have always loved flute.  At 30 I bought a flute and learned how to play. I enjoy being part of the Greater Indianapolis Flute Club, and I have been in a community band for eleven years.

I WISH this was my car!

 2. I LOVE to drive sports cars!!!  Mr. C owned a Fiat 850 Spider in high school. He taught me how to drive it when we were dating. Sooooooo many fantastic memories in that car. All my cars since have had manual transmission.  I got my dream car the year I turned 50. Well, maybe not my dream car, but as close as I could afford.

The Oakley House Bakery
This was my first table at the Farmer's Market.
3. I love to bake, not a new thing I know.  What you may not know is that  Theresa, a member of the Garden Web Cooking Forum, inspired me to bake for a new farmer's market in town when she posted about baking for her farmer's market.

French Baguettes
Raspberry Filled Sugar Cookies

Baking day is long and tiring, and so worth it. I have met so many wonderful, supportive people. Regular customers come every week and some order baked goods as well.

The Israel Jenkins House
One of my favorite projects.
4. I  am on my fourth career, SAHW  (stay at home wife).  My first profession was nursing. I practiced critical care for 20 years as well as teaching critical care and nursing administration at two universities. My second profession is historic preservation specialist. I went back to graduate school the year I turned 40. I didn't realize until now, but I see a pattern here...30, 40 50, and I got married the year I turned 20.  Hmmmmmm, what is lurking around the corner at 60? I took a break from HP for a few years to be the executive director of a professional orchestra and loved it! I still help from time to time without the stress of being responsible for running an orchestra. It's great.

The back of the house.
5. I was not blessed with fast twitch fibers. I cannot jump higher than 3 inches off the ground. Oh, I try and Mr. C just laughs. Nor have I mastered grace and elegance. Clumsy klutz is more my style. I went outside to take a few pictures of the snow for the blog, slipped on the ice, hit my head and I can't find the darn camera! I am adding forgetful to the list.
The patio.

Grandmomma & Granddaddy

6.  I knew absolutely nothing about cooking or baking when I got married. Learning has been a blast. My mother-in-law is a fantastic cook. She taught Home Ec for many years, and is a very patient teacher. I tease Mr. C that he has no taste buds because he always eats what I make without complaint. I am one lucky gal.

7. I am very shy, which people mistake for snobbish because conversation is hard for me. One of the reasons I began blogging is to help me learn to communicate more easily. Posts take a long time for me to get just right. (I am embarrassed to tell you how long I have been sitting here.) I appreciate each and every one of you who reads my blog.  Thanks!

I am happy to give the
Stylish Blogger Award
to these blogs I have recently discovered and love reading.

I loved learning more about you! It's incredible that you still play the flute. Your bakery table looks fantastic! The gingham tablecloth makes it look especially homey. Raspberry filled sugar cookies - who could resist?

Let's see one thing you don't know about me - I played piano as a child, and recently acquired a piano for WD, but have been terrified to sit down at it. CG works from home and I don't want to hear me flounder trying to get reacquainted with music.

Great list of blogs! Some of them are new to me and I can't wait to check them out.

Thanks so much! Laxsupermom did the same for me, but I didn't know the rules, so thank you for that, too! And, phew, you gave me a new post idea for this week. :-)

Congratulations on your well deserved blog award! I loved this post and the chance to get to know you better! My husband is from Indy, and his parents still live there so I wonder if they have ever attended any of the orchestra performances you have helped run?! Thank you so much for this wonderful award, I truly appreciate it!

I missed the directions...I didn't ask or tell you anything. I, too, am thought to be snobby or something negative, just because I am quiet and reserved. I do OK in writing, but not so much in person! But something totally random: I kill houseplants. I over water and under water...Just can't seem to find the middle ground.

I've never said either how spiffy your blog is looking with the new format!

I just got around to reading this post and following the rules. You can read my responses here: http://meemaw-rita.blogspot.com/2011/02/what-honor.html

You are an amazingly multi-faceted lady! Of course, there was so much I did not know about you and you did such a great job of describing the many aspects of YOU! Thank you! I loved reading this.

I can identify with #6--no cooking experience before marriage, and a husband who will eat anything.

I never thought you to be 'snobbish'.

I find you to be a caring person.

Again, have a GOOD week.

Congratulations to you for a well deserved award!

You and I have three things in common, we both love music (ok, I can't play any musical instruments, but I used to sing in a band). I can't jump high to save my life. And I'm very forgetful.

Thank you kindly for the lovely award! And congratulations to all!
