I Love My Dad

Life changes when we least expect it, and mine is no exception.  Being too busy to post, that's not what makes me happy.  When life intervenes, blogging just doesn't get done. Sorry that last week was one of those weeks. This week looks like it is going to be one of those weeks as well. Here's why . . .

After being a diabetic for many years, Dad started on insulin last week. Understanding and managing an insulin dependent life-style is challenging at any age. At 86, it is tough to understand how important it is to eat on a regular schedule. And how important it is to eat consistently the same number of calories every day-not more, not less.  Especially less; hypoglycemia can be fatal. It almost was twice in the last couple of weeks for Dad. His blood sugar was so low he couldn't talk and he was too weak to move. He couldn't get help. Thankfully my step-mother found him before it was too late. Anyway, I'll be staying with my dad and step-mother this week. I want to be there for them, help them adjust as much as possible. I know he can do this. He has before...

On the mend after a their car rolled down a hill with him behind it.

I would appreciate your good thoughts. I miss you, everyone of you.  I'll be back soon. I hope life treats you well. Until then, cheers.

Snow ~ Love it!!!

A pristine blanket of snow is beautiful. There is a hush outside when it is snowing that is more peaceful than anything else. At least if it is not during a storm.  And, there is rarely anyone else outside.  This is the view before I shoveled the sidewalk. The lights of downtown are in the distance.

Sweet Girl is just like a puppy in the snow. She frantically searches for her Wubba to take out with her and is excited with the first step outside the door!  Making snow angles and chasing her Wubbas are her favorite, but she's also curious who or what has been in her yard since she was out last.

Walks at the park are special family time. When everyone goes, that's the best! Sweet Girl must cover three times the ground we walk chasing her Wubba. Walking is fun even with cold fingers and a drippy nose (us not her, ha). If she notices the cold, we can't tell.

She tires easier than she did when she was young. I'm sorry we didn't have her when she was a puppy. She is adopted from Golden Retriever Rescue and Community Education (GRRACE). They think she was a puppy mill mom. She has been with us eight years.

No worries, she has her own bed and pillow to snuggle by the chair. She is not a bad foot warmer. Hot chocolate is not bad either. Soon she is ready for her next adventure outside!

Family Thanksgiving

Family are all those at our Thanksgiving table.
Whether related by blood, law or friendship,
We are all a family related by love.
I missed all my family who were elsewhere Thursday.
Blessings and love to you all.

We had Thanksgiving dinner at my sister-in-law's house in Michigan.
She is a very gracious hostess who loves having a house full of people.
She plans the menu and gives us each a dish or two to bring.
The meals are a feast for the eyes and tummy.
I brought the rolls and an entree.

Dinner is served buffet style on the island.
The dishes: L-R
Cheesy scalloped potatoes, lentil patties, chix-special k loaf,
pickled beets, white and wheat rolls, veggie turkey and stuffing rolls,
vegetable tray, cranberry sauce, red hubbard squash,
clear noodles and veggies, green beans with almonds.

Granddad (father-in-law from Ohio), our son (Indiana) and Mr. C

Always cheery Niece (Grad student in California) and Grandmomma (Ohio)

Brother-in-law's (oops I missed him) cousin and his family from Kentucky.
