I Love My Dad

Life changes when we least expect it, and mine is no exception.  Being too busy to post, that's not what makes me happy.  When life intervenes, blogging just doesn't get done. Sorry that last week was one of those weeks. This week looks like it is going to be one of those weeks as well. Here's why . . .

After being a diabetic for many years, Dad started on insulin last week. Understanding and managing an insulin dependent life-style is challenging at any age. At 86, it is tough to understand how important it is to eat on a regular schedule. And how important it is to eat consistently the same number of calories every day-not more, not less.  Especially less; hypoglycemia can be fatal. It almost was twice in the last couple of weeks for Dad. His blood sugar was so low he couldn't talk and he was too weak to move. He couldn't get help. Thankfully my step-mother found him before it was too late. Anyway, I'll be staying with my dad and step-mother this week. I want to be there for them, help them adjust as much as possible. I know he can do this. He has before...

On the mend after a their car rolled down a hill with him behind it.

I would appreciate your good thoughts. I miss you, everyone of you.  I'll be back soon. I hope life treats you well. Until then, cheers.

Spending Time

Today was a lovely Fall day to
celebrate my dad's
86th birthday.

Warm, cheerful
sunshine and
fallen leaves
beckoned us
to enjoy
a park
we discovered
on a ride
this afternoon.

At the end
of the lake
was this
lovely
stone bridge . . .

to stop
and enjoy
the view with
the love
of his life.

And,
snuggle up
on a bench
and enjoy
the sunshine.

I love you Dad.
Happy Birthday!
