I Love My Dad

Life changes when we least expect it, and mine is no exception.  Being too busy to post, that's not what makes me happy.  When life intervenes, blogging just doesn't get done. Sorry that last week was one of those weeks. This week looks like it is going to be one of those weeks as well. Here's why . . .

After being a diabetic for many years, Dad started on insulin last week. Understanding and managing an insulin dependent life-style is challenging at any age. At 86, it is tough to understand how important it is to eat on a regular schedule. And how important it is to eat consistently the same number of calories every day-not more, not less.  Especially less; hypoglycemia can be fatal. It almost was twice in the last couple of weeks for Dad. His blood sugar was so low he couldn't talk and he was too weak to move. He couldn't get help. Thankfully my step-mother found him before it was too late. Anyway, I'll be staying with my dad and step-mother this week. I want to be there for them, help them adjust as much as possible. I know he can do this. He has before...

I would appreciate your good thoughts. I miss you, everyone of you.  I'll be back soon. I hope life treats you well. Until then, cheers.

Oh my gosh, Cotehele! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your father for a smooth adjustment. My SIL is a brittle diabetic, so I understand how difficult it is to keep blood sugar under control. I'm sure you being there to help with meals will help him make the diet adjustments.

There are definitely more important things than blogging. I'm sure your being there will help your DF, SM, AND YOU feel better. Praying for you all.

Dear Cotehele,
You are where you are supposed to be. I pray that this time with your Dad will be a real gift for both of you. Enjoy each moment.

Cotehele, my thoughts are with you.

Your caring and your father's fervent disposition (judging by his sweet smile) will get you both through this.

Good thoughts from up here - I'm facing the same challenge with my mum, who is 84.
I've had such a nice visit to your blog - found my way here from Kat's Low Tide High Style.

I appreciate your good thoughts and kind wishes. It means a lot to me and my family.

Dad's blood sugar is continuing to bottom out several days a week. Very worrisome; we are working on it.
